EWAN ANDREASEN CONSULTING

I help human service organizations see their programs clearly and act on what they see.

Data infrastructure, measurement, and service improvement for teams that don't have a data department. Built so it still works after I leave.

The shape of every system I build: it works, it's written down, and it doesn't depend on me.

What I do

Measurement that answers real questions
Dashboards and the instrumentation underneath them, built around the questions your leadership and funders actually ask: are we reaching the right people, is it working, what should we do next? Your data starts changing decisions instaed of just describing activity.
Reporting that runs itself
The funder report that takes someone three days and breaks every month, automated: pipeline built, documented, and maintained so reporting becomes a review step, not a project.
Service improvement, grounded in your own data
When the numbers surface a problem, applications dying for missing documents, a program not reaching the neighborhoods that need it, I help you redesign the process, then measure whehter the fix worked.
Foundation layer framing
Accounts payable and receivable workflows, Bill.com and QuickBooks administration, grant expenditure tracking, and clean documentation packets for your bookkeeper. Microsoft 365 administration, device setup and inventory, security baselines, and nonprofit licensing that stops overpaying.
Systems that survive turnover
Everything is delivered with SOPs, policy documentation, and handoff materials written for the person who holds the role next, not for the consultant who built them. Interim leadership coverage available when a role sits empty.

How engagements work

Three shapes cover most of what organizations need. Every engagement, whatever its shape, ends with documentation your team owns.

ShapeWhat it looks likeTypical length
Fix one thing A single broken or missing system — a funder report, an intake process, a finance workflow - scoped, built, documented, and handed over. Fixed scope, defined deliverable.
Fixed scope, defined deliverable.
2–4 weeks
Build + maintain A reporting pipeline or dashboard built as a fixed project, then a light retainer keeping it accurate as your programs, staff, and funders change.
Light retainer, cancel anytime.
Build 3-6 weeks, then ongoing
Interim coverage Full operations coverage during a leave or vacancy, run at a leadership level, with the handoff package built as I go rather than at the end.
Weekly hours, monthly invoicing.

About

I'm Ewan Andreasen, a data and operations consultant in Seattle. Before consulting, I spent a decade inside housing and homelessness data systems, HMIS, funder reporting, compliance, at the kinds of organizations where the mission is urgent and the data capacity is one person's spare afternoons. When your numbers look wrong, I usually know why before opening the database.

I've administered the full small-nonprofit stack — Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Salesforce, Smartsheet, Bill.com, QuickBooks, Asana, EveryAction, 1Password — and my working principle is simple: if a system only works while I'm in the room, it isn't finished.

Common questions

We've never hired a consultant. How does this start?

With a conversation and a short list. I look at what's breaking, what's undocumented, and what's costing you money, and give you a prioritized list — whether or not we work together. If we do, we pick the top of the list and scope it as a fixed engagement.

What does this cost?

I bill hourly, invoiced monthly with net-15 terms. Fixed-scope engagements get an hours estimate up front, and I flag it early if reality diverges. Nonprofit budgets are real constraints and I scope to them.

Do we need to be a nonprofit?

No. My deepest pattern knowledge is human services and the public secotr, including the vendor discounts and licensing programs most small orgs don't know they qualify for; but small teams anywhere have the same data and opertions problems, and the same systems fix them.

What happens when the engagement ends?

You keep everything: documentation, credentials transferred properly, systems in your tenant and accounts, and a handoff package written for whoever runs operations next. My own access gets revoked on a checklist. That's the point.

The first conversation is free and useful either way — you'll leave with a prioritized list even if we never work together. Write with a couple of sentences about your organization and what's not working. I reply within two business days.
